Johan was born in Zimbabwe and moved with his parents to South Africa when he was six months old. He spent his early childhood in Hillcrest just outside Durban before moving to Pietermartizburg where he matriculated from Voortrekker High School in 1992.
In 1993 he took a gap year before going on to study a Bachelor of Social Science degree with majors in Legal Studies and Psychology at the University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg (now the University of KwaZulu Natal).
After graduating he moved to Port Elizabeth where he continued his studies with a B Proc degree at the University of Port Elizabeth (now Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University).
Johan completed his articles at Fourie Sikweyiya Inc (previously M.A. Scheepers, D.C. Fourie & Associate Attorneys) after which he was promoted to Professional Assistant and then Director in July 2004.
During his time as Fourie Sikweyiya Inc he managed the firm’s debt recovery and litigation portfolio for the local government Budget & Treasury Business Unit.
His future plans include completing an MBA.
Johan and his wife Leigh-Ann enjoy camping around the country and sight-seeing during their holidays. Johan is a keen photographer and enjoys playing golf and squash to maintain his fitness levels.
