A graduate of the University of Port Elizabeth (now Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University) and the University of Cape Town, Karel completed his articles in Johannesburg and practiced in Shipping law and Fisheries law at Dawson Edwards & Associates in Cape Town.
Karel has since 2004 consulted and subsequently run his own practice in Port Elizabeth, consulting to various Municipalities with Business Intelligence and NMMU (ISGAD), Transnet National Port Authority and clients in the fishing industry.
Karel is married to Audrey, who manages the Thandu’sana home for abandoned babies at the Newton Park Methodist Church. They have a daughter named Nina.
Karel enjoys family time, reading, running, the ocean and nature.
