Born in Douglas in the Northern Cape, Hennie grew up on a farm and matriculated
at Elcon High School in Kimberley. A graduate of the University of Port
Elizabeth (now Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University), he completed
his articles with Couzyn Hertzog & Horak in Pretoria.
Hennie has been part of Joubert Galpin Searle since 1989. Specialising in Litigation, particularly in the delictual and insurance fields, he acts as the main panel attorney for major insurance companies in the Eastern Cape and heads up the Litigation division.
He was Vice President of The South East Cape Attorneys Association. He was Convenor of the EP Hockey Disciplinary Committee; is a Commissioner of the Small Claims Court; a past Convenor of the local Attorneys Admission, Conveyancing and Notarial Exams, and the Deputy Chairman of the Grey High School Board of Governors.
Hennie, his wife Mary and their Lisa, Nicky and Robbie are actively involved in various sports and the family's weekends are devoted to supporting each others endeavours.
He has been awarded 13 Comrades Marathon medals and has competed in
the Iron Man challenge for 5 consecutive years. Hennie also enjoys wildlife
and hunting.
